make a rule before guests coming over that it is your child's responsibility to clean up after them as a big child, and a family member. Offer him that he can encourage them to not make a mess and clean up toys together as a leader. You can ask the group of children in a spot to be part of cleaning up as an opportunity to help and act like a big, responsible child. your child then will participate without shame and with encouragement.
